Platform 3: Economic Growth of the Black Family
The Black Family Program provides at risk Black families, having at least one male, with health related, educational, economic, personal development experiences and opportunities and services to enhance their quality of life to overcome barriers that hinder positive growth. Events have included parenting workshops, partnerships with Broward County Healthy Start Program Baby Shower. Recently the Black Family Committee in partnership with the AKAdemic Foundation provided program opportunities it its From the Cradle to College Effort with reading and math assistance to children grades K-4 through a grant funded by Target Foundation. In collaboration with Platform II, AKA Connection, sessions focusing on: job readiness and coaching, financial literacy, wealth building activities, education advocacy, housing counseling for families, seniors, College Tour, Execu-Prep. The sessions have given us partners such as Littman Youth and Family Services, Inc. The chapter has provided such services to organizations such as Royal Palm Elementary and Boys and Girls Club and NAACP. Additionally, the chapter lends their “soror power” monthly to the Cooperative Feeding Program. Scheduled for early 2008, soror power will be working with Habitat for Humanity.
