History

The AKAdemic Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)3 not for profit organization which is an affiliate of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Zeta Rho Omega Chapter. The mission of the foundation is to provide opportunities for personal growth, self-improvement and academic achievement for youth, families, and seniors.

Recent external funding awards have been the Target Foundation for the Learning Pals Reading Program and the Ivy Connection Youth Program from the Community Foundation of Broward.

The newest award from the Community Foundation of Broward is the the Ivy Connection – Connecting the ships with ESP (Entrepreneurship, Scholarship, Partnership, Leadership, Mentorship and Friendship). The Ivy Connection is a youth entrepreneurship initiatve. The AKAdemic Foundation has awarded the chapter an external initiative to provide high school students with the opportunity to: learn the basics of entrepreneurship while enhancing basic understanding of economic n concepts; reinforce the value of a college education in earnings potential; increase self-confidence and the understanding of hard work payoff and establish a sense of community responsibility. The primary focus of this initiative is the Youth Business Plan Competition.

The Foundation holds two yearly fundraisers the Pink Ice Ball in the month of February and the Miss Fashionetta™/Mr. Esquire program. Proceeds from these two fund raisers benefit high school students in scholarships as well as other community-based programs of service for families and seniors.
